We-Vibe Melt Review: Sometimes, Feeling Blue is a Good Thing
One of the best developments in the world of sex toys over recent years has been the broadening of the color palette toys are available in. I’m not TERRIBLY old—I turned 28 this summer, and I am a proud Cancer—but I still remember how ten years ago, as an 18 year old, the only options for sex toys were pink, purple, and various shades of flesh. None of these options were particularly appealing to me, as you can guess. Fortunately, there are way more color options available now, and manufacturers are starting to update existing sex toys to include a greater range of colors. One of the most recent developments has been the re-release of the We-Vibe Melt in a new “Midnight Blue” color. I had been wanting to try the We-Vibe Melt for a long time, so when I found out I would not only get the We-Vibe Melt for review, but also get it in BLUE, I was thrilled.
First Impressions:
We-Vibe always brings their A-game when it comes to packaging. I have reviewed several We-Vibe toys at this point, and I was just recently able to bring myself to clean out some of the boxes that had been piling up in my closet. The boxes that We-Vibe and their sister company, Womanizer, package their toys in are so nice that I honestly just feel bad getting rid of them.
The box for the We-Vibe Melt adhered to this same high standard, and had a cool pink, purple, and blue ombre effect on the box (unintentional bi pride flag?) as the background to the new blue We-Vibe Melt. Inside was the Melt, a magnetic USB charging cable, a white cloth storage bag, and the instruction manual.
We-Vibe Melt Design:
The midnight blue color of the new We-Vibe Melt is similar to the midnight blue Womanizer toys I own—again, because We-Vibe and Womanizer are sibling companies under the parent brand WOW-TECH. I have to admit, I was thrilled to have a cohesive color collection, and also curious as to how the Melt would compare to its closest cousin, the Womanizer Premium. The main difference is that unlike the Womanizer toys, the We-Vibe Melt is a single, streamlined toy that has no detachable nozzle or other parts to swap in and out. This can be seen as both a pro and a con—the We-Vibe Melt has been designed to accommodate a greater standard range of clitoris sizes, but it does present the risk of not fitting at all.
The We-Vibe Melt has a generous mouth—not quite as large as the Dame Aer, but still designed to work for as many users as possible. One of the main selling points of the Melt is also its ergonomic, streamlined shape. The Melt was designed for use in couple’s play, according to the description on the We-Vibe product page, which is also one of the driving philosophies behind the We-Vibe brand. It is called “We” Vibe, after all. It was designed to be conveniently held between partners during intercourse in “any position,” and while I know that this technically includes my partner and I, I still read the description for the Melt as being primarily targeted for “traditional” PIV intercourse.
I can’t really speak to how well it fits or functions during PIV, because while my partner and I do have strap-on sex, I would argue the logistics of strap-on sex are different than PIV sex where the penis and vagina are built in to the participants. More importantly, though, my partner doesn’t really care for air pulse toys in general, so they wouldn’t ever choose to use one while receiving the strap. As for myself, I feel like I’m really picky with air pulse toys and can only really orgasm with them alone, and even then only under select circumstances. Because both of us are biased towards not favoring air pulse toys in general, whether or not they fit well between us during strap-on sex is beside the point, as we don’t wish to include them in the first place.
I will say, though, that the overall shape of the Melt is very minimalist, smooth, and ergonomic. It’s sleek, slim, and designed to take up minimal space. Ultimately, it’s nice and easy to hold in my hand and doesn’t feel bulky or clunky. Holding it is second nature, and on the days where I do find myself able to enthusiastically orgasm with an air pulse toy, the Melt is excellent for riding out the waves of orgasm without having to think about my grip or anything like that. The buttons are placed intuitively, which also makes for an ideal user experience. Additionally, the toy is waterproof, which is always a perk.
Using the We-Vibe Melt:
In terms of controls, the We-Vibe Melt is easy and intuitive to use. It takes between 90 minutes to 2 hours to charge up all the way, and to turn it on, you press the “+” button. The “+” button also allows you to progress through the Melt’s twelve available intensity levels, and can be pressed like clicking a remote or held down to do so. Pressing the “-“ button allows you to decrease intensity, and you hold down the “-“ for two seconds to turn the Melt off. The Melt can also be paired with the We-Vibe We-Connect app, which allows you to control it using your smartphone or tablet.
Like all air pulse toys, the function of the Melt is dependent on achieving a good seal. This is a persistent challenge for me when using air pulse toys, and I really wish there were more resources out there that showed like, the vulvas and clitorises that these toys were tested on, preferably with accompanying measurements. Unlike penis size, which is discussed all the fucking time in popular culture, clitoris size remains a fucking mystery. What’s a big clit? What’s a small clit? What are the different shapes? Sure, there’s a few resources out there designed to showcase different vulvas, but I still find myself kind of squinting and confused at them. I guess I could pull up some porn and just zoom in, but even that isn’t a real solution. Not to mention, measuring one’s clitoris is notoriously difficult. I tried, with measuring tape, but I still feel like it doesn’t provide a truly comprehensive picture.
Anyway, I found that the We-Vibe Melt is able to form a seal around my clitoris decently enough, although it’s still somewhat frustrating to achieve, particularly at the beginning of a session. It’s definitely something that I can’t do without using a generous dose of lube, so please be sure to keep that in mind if you’re using the Melt yourself. The Melt is pretty strong right off the bat—definitely much stronger than the first setting on the Dame Aer, for comparison—so I would also recommend doing something else to warm your clit up before diving in to using the We-Vibe Melt. It’s not a toy that you can start cold with, in my opinion.
I think that measuring one’s clitoris should function like measuring one’s finger for ring sizing. Just make a little silicone doodad that you can surround your clit with as a test to see what “size” you are, and then purchase an air pulse toy based on that. If only I had the ability to make something, I would do this.
Performance:
The We-Vibe Melt isn’t a toy to warm up with, but oh boy, it’s absolutely a toy to orgasm with. When the We-Vibe Melt works (aka, pushes past my bad brain and psychological resistance to orgasming), it really fucking works. The first time I used it, I didn’t expect to squirt, but it made me squirt A LOT. I had to grab a pajama shirt I had laying on the bed and jam it underneath me in a panic, and then a few seconds later take off the t-shirt I was wearing and jam that underneath me too to soak up the ongoing squirtfest. The We-Vibe Melt at its highest intensities is uh, fucking incredible, and I was left just kind of riding out the waves of ongoing orgasm, squirting, and wheezing. I came a LOT before I finally had to pull the Melt away from me, and I can only say…I was extremely impressed.
The We-Vibe Melt is a comfortable fit against my clit and surrounding area, and once I got it correctly in place, it really…really did the job. I initially came on one of the middle settings, and then took the plunge to crank it up to the highest settings, at which point…holy fuck. It’s strong! It’s so fucking strong! I can see how in another situation it would quickly lead to overstimulation, which is why I STRONGLY recommend you’re properly warmed up before using it. You wanna orgasm, not numb out your clit before you can even get there.
The air pulse sensations of the Melt are DEEP. They’re super strong, super thuddy, and overwhelmingly rich and intense. To me, they felt amazing not just on the actual clit niblet itself, but also on the “shaft” (I guess??? Please, world, give some better anatomy words for clitoris stuff) of my clit—I can feel it better than I can describe it, but underneath the skin I can feel the hard root of my clit before I reach the niblet part that sticks out. God, niblet…like it’s a little corn kernel or something…anyway, whatever I’m putting it on, it feels amazing.
Final Thoughts on the We-Vibe Melt:
The We-Vibe Melt is a toy for when you want to orgasm really fucking hard, and when you’re ready to orgasm really fucking hard. It’s sleek, it’s powerful, it’s blue now, and it’s fucking incredible. That’s all I can say about it. Compared to other air pulse toys, the power is one of its biggest draws, but when pitting the Melt against the Womanizer Premium, specifically, I would say the biggest perk is the ability to control it using the We-Connect app. Overall, though, the biggest overall perk of the We-Vibe Melt is IT GIVES SUPER FUCKING STRONG AND INTENSE ORGASMS. I cannot emphasize enough, the Melt does not fuck around—it’s super fucking overwhelming, so if you’re not into that, beware. That being said, though, when you’re in the mood to just get completely bowled over from external clitoral stimulation…the We-Vibe Melt is your best friend.
You can get the We-Vibe Melt in the new midnight blue color or the original pink color here from We-Vibe! Thanks to We-Vibe for giving me the opportunity to review the new blue Melt!
