The We-Vibe Nova 2 is a Fantastically Flexible Rabbit Vibrator
My partner and I have been in the market for a good rabbit vibrator for quite some time. Our first rabbit vibrator (and also our first vibrator, period) was the Svakom Alice, which…isn’t a terrible vibrator, but it also isn’t amazing. The Svakom Alice is WAY better than the second rabbit vibrator we tried, though. After my experience with the Blush Novelties Hop Jessica Rabbit, I didn’t even want to think about trying to look for another rabbit vibrator. Still, though, there was one rabbit vibrator I held out hope for in the back of my mind: The We-Vibe Nova 2.
I already knew I was a fan of We-Vibe’s vibrations based on my experiences with the Rave, Tango, and Tango X, and I was intrigued by the fact that the Nova 2 was able to be posed to suit the user’s unique anatomy. The Nova 2 was firmly banished to the back of my mind, though—at $149.99, it wasn’t a toy I could justify in my budget prior to starting this blog.
Since the Nova 2 has long been in the top 10 on my sex toy wishlist, you can imagine my shock and joy when We-Vibe reached out to me and offered me the opportunity to review the Nova 2. It was one of many “too good to be true” moments I’ve had since starting this blog, and I couldn’t wait for the package from We-Vibe to arrive in my mailbox so I could finally experience the rabbit vibrator I had heard so much about.
First Impressions:
When the We-Vibe Nova 2 first arrived to me, I was surprised by how SQUISHY the tip of it was!! I’m more used to the unrelenting firmness of the We-Vibe Rave, so I was expecting the Nova 2 to have a similarly firm main body. The Nova 2 has quite a bit of give, although it does still have a solid, firm body beneath the initial squishy tip as well as throughout the greater body of the toy. I also really liked the handle design, which feels ergonomic and very pleasant to hold.
One of the Nova 2’s main selling points is its flexible body. The external arm is designed in a way that allows it to maintain contact with the clitoris even while thrusting the internal part of the toy in and out. The external arm’s flexibility also means that you don’t have to fret about the toy being the correct fit for your body—a common complaint with rabbit vibrators. Rather, the Nova 2 does the work of conforming to your anatomy for you, making it suitable for a much wider range of users. After being infuriated with how unsuitable the Blush Hop Jessica Rabbit was for my anatomy, the Nova 2 was a refreshing change.
The internal arm of the Nova 2 is also flexible, although not to the same degree. It adjusts by applying moderate pressure, and while I was initially fearful that I would break the toy by trying to adjust the internal arm’s angle, it ultimately turned out to be no problem. While it is flexible and able to be adjusted, the internal arm does remain sturdy while in use and at no point feels flimsy or unwieldy. I found that I was able to adjust the angle of the internal arm with no problem even while it was partially still inserted within me, which was much more convenient than having to pull the vibrator out, re calibrate it, and then see if it felt any better. The ability to adjust both the internal and external arms on the fly was a huge perk when using this vibrator.
As a criticism, I was surprised to feel such a notable seam running along the silicone body of the Nova 2, though. Usually, seams are associated with lower-quality vibrators—not the high end design I’ve come to expect from We-Vibe. In use, though, it wasn’t a notable issue.
Other than that, though, I was pleased with just about everything design-wise when I first tested out the We-Vibe Nova 2. Even if the visible seams on the silicone are a little iffy to look at, I didn’t notice them while actually using the toy, making the seams ultimately not much of an issue.
Controls:
First things first, the rechargeable We-Vibe Nova 2 charges magnetically via a USB cable, which allows it to be fully waterproof. The charger connects solidly to the magnetic charging connectors on the outer body of the toy, and according to the manual it takes 90 minutes to charge. You can easily tell if it’s connected and charging correctly, as a light will blink rapidly while it is charging. Once it’s fully charged, the light will remain on.
To turn the Nova 2 on, you press and hold the “plus” button, which you then press down and hold in order to increase the intensity of the toy’s vibrations. Similarly, pressing the “minus” button decreases the vibration intensity, and pressing and holding the minus button will turn the toy off.
Immediately below the minus button is a…circle button? With a “rotate” symbol on it? Whatever it’s meant to look like, pressing this button allows you to toggle between the Nova 2’s motors. You can set the toy so that both the external and internal arm vibrate together, or set it so only the internal arm or only the external arm vibrates. If you choose to only have one of the arms vibrate, you can easily adjust the vibration settings of that arm by using the plus or minus buttons. This is a good option to have for people who may only want external vibration while still being able to experience penetration, or vice versa. Pressing the button once activates the external arm motor, pressing it twice activates the internal arm motor, and pressing it three times results in both the external and internal arms being activated.
By pressing the arrow buttons on either side of the plus and minus buttons, you can cycle through the different pattern settings on the Nova 2. There are ten different patterns in all, and several of them alternate between vibrations in the external and internal arms to create a truly unique sensation.
The overall scheme of the Nova 2’s buttons reminds me strongly of an old-school iPod, although my partner found the buttons to be somewhat confusing during their first test of it. I didn’t have the same problem, but I will note that the button scheme of the Nova 2 isn’t like anything I’ve ever seen on any other vibrator before. Ultimately though, I like the way the buttons on the Nova 2 are arranged and the way they function. I think the ability to adjust so many different aspects of the toy allows for a huge amount of user control over the experience, and the ability to go back and forth between patterns is especially notable in my opinion.
App Controls:
Like two other We-Vibe toys I’ve reviewed (the Rave and the Wand by We-Vibe), the Nova 2 is compatible with We-Vibe’s app. Unlike the Rave and the Wand, though, the Nova 2 has two motors that you can control from within the app. Pairing the toy and using the app were a familiar routine for me, but I was interested to see how different it would be controlling a dual-motor toy in the app.
I found that for the Nova 2, the app utilizes a split screen where you can control the external arm and internal arm individually, with the external arm on top and the internal arm on bottom. Like the single motor settings, you can create custom patterns, select existing patterns, and adjust vibrations as you please. As with other We-Vibe app compatible toys, you can also use the app to control the toy long distance, although this isn’t something I’ve personally dabbled with.
My Partner’s Experience with the We-Vibe Nova 2:
My partner really liked the patterns on this toy, especially the way that the patterns alternate between the external and internal arms. They found it to be a really unique experience in a highly positive way, and praised both the innovation of the patterns themselves as well as the high quality of the vibrations.
However, my partner did say that overall, the internal arm felt quite a bit weaker than the external arm, to their disappointment. Typically, my partner prefers intense internal vibrations, such as those from the Fun Factory Tiger, and they were hoping that the internal vibrations of the We-Vibe Nova 2 would be more like those of the We-Vibe Rave. They did say that the Nova 2’s internal vibrations felt stronger and better when it was on a pattern setting as opposed to a standard, steady vibration setting, though.
My partner also pointed out that they preferred how our old rabbit vibrator of choice, the Svakom Alice, has a flexible external arm that remained straight in use, compared to how the Nova 2’s arm bends to conform to the user’s anatomy. With my partner’s specific clitoral anatomy, they felt that the straight arm of the Alice felt better than the bent, curved arm of the Nova 2. While the Nova 2’s external arm bends inward, it unfortunately cannot be bent outward or adjusted to lay flat or straight.
My Experience with the We-Vibe Nova 2:
My partner tested this toy before I did, but after carrying out my own round of testing, I found that I agreed with them on just about every point they made. Echoing my partner’s first point of criticism, when the internal and external arms are both set to a standard vibration, I felt like I didn’t really feel or notice the internal arm. If you’re seeking a vibrator primarily for intense internal vibrations, the Nova 2 may not be right for you, and I would instead suggest the We-Vibe Rave.
Like my partner, I’m not usually a patterns type of person, but I also found the patterns were the best part of the Nova 2 for me. While the standard vibration setting left me feeling like the internal arm wasn’t doing much, when I switched through the patterns, that was when I REALLY felt the internal arm. My favorite pattern setting involves alternating vibrations going between the external and internal arms, which feels INTENSE in an amazing way.
The sudden, strong, isolated vibration of the internal arm on this setting reminded me of the kind of targeted stimulation that I get when my partner fingerfucks me, as that intermittent pulse of vibration felt to me like fingers going in and out, in a way. Let me be clear, this isn’t a thrusting vibrator and will not create a sensation actually meant to resemble any kind of thrusting or intermittent penetration. However, based on my personal memory bank of sensations, that’s the feeling it reminded me of.
When using the We-Vibe Nova 2, it was effortless. I really didn’t have to think about trying to angle it correctly so that the external arm stayed in contact with my clitoris, or managing my thrusts correctly so that the toy would conform to my anatomy. The toy did all the work of staying in contact with my genitals for me, so that I was only responsible for tailoring the vibrations and the pacing of my thrusts to orgasm on my own terms. I even found that adjusting the internal arm while the toy was still inside me was simple and intuitive, and the ability to make small adjustments in the moment really improved the overall experience with this toy.
As another note, I’ve been having some issues with pain and tearing during penetrative sex/masturbation for the past couple of months. This has made it so that the toys I’m capable of using without pain and injury is very limited, which as you can imagine isn’t a great position to be in as a sex toy reviewer. Fortunately, though, the shape and size of the We-Vibe Nova 2 was modest enough so that I could comfortably use it without experiencing any issues. Since some sex toys can be prohibitively large for many users for no real reason, I’m glad to say that the Nova 2 is very manageable and comfortable to use, even from the perspective of someone currently struggling with issues around penetration.
Final Thoughts on the We-Vibe Nova 2:
I had high hopes for the We-Vibe Nova 2, and I’m so happy to say I wasn’t at all disappointed by it. We-Vibe is responsible for some of my favorite sex toys designs, and I think the Nova 2 is yet another example of solidly good design by this company.
Compared to other rabbit vibrators, the Nova 2 is uniquely flexible and provides users with multiple options to customize the shape, angle, and vibrations of this toy. This toy offers so many options: choosing to use the external arm, internal arm, or both; a flexible external arm that effortlessly works with the user’s body; an easily adjustable internal arm; strong vibrations and patterns that truly harnessed the dual-stimulation design; and app compatibility that allows for greater accessibility, long distance partnered play, and an even greater ability to create custom vibrations and patterns.
I really enjoyed the Nova 2, and I’m so happy to have found a rabbit vibrator that works well not just for me, but that is designed to work well for a wide variety of people. If you’re interested in trying the Nova 2 for yourself, you can pick one up here directly from We-Vibe.
Thanks so much to We-Vibe for giving me the opportunity to review the Nova 2!
